What are the Reasons for Women’s Hair Loss?

You just may find it surprising that women’s hair loss is a condition that’s seen more frequently than people would think. Another thing that is so surprising about this issue is that hair loss in women can often happen just as much as it does in men, yet there’s so much more awareness about the condition in men. So why don’t you hear about it as often?

There are not many, if any, media programming on the subject of female hair loss problems. What we do know is that there are any number of reasons that a woman might find herself getting a little thin up top. Ok, we’ll share some thoughts and facts about thinning hair in women.

Some medications that women take will definitely cause hair loss for them. So many women undergo chemotherapy treatment, and that’s one thing that will do it. Chemical interaction between the female body and other medications will cause this to happen, as well. In other cases, the hair will not always fall out. In such situations, it’s merely a cessation of new hair growth that is the effect. But the net effect is the appearance of hair loss. Pregnancy is another condition that can have a huge impact on a woman’s hair. The effect is that some experience rapid hair growth, but for other women the opposite happens. What often happens with the more hair growth is that it will fall out pretty quickly after her baby is born.

For first-time mothers, this is something that can can undue alarm. However once the body chemistry and hormones return to normal then things will settle down with the hair. The important thing is to avoid over-reacting to it.

One thing men and women have in common is that their hair will grow and fall-out in cycles. Just several years is about the normal lifespan of a strand of hair. Hair is shed after approximately six years, and it will experience a rate of growth of 0.5 inch per month.

However, for some women, there is an interruption of that cycle, and it’s caused for genetic reasons. At this point there is no treatment of that condition. The expression of this condition is random, and does not last forever – the hair will begin to grow again. Sure, of course it’s a source of embarrassment, but you can find support and means to effectively handle it.

There are quite a few causes for women to experience degrees of hair loss. You’re not alone if you are suffering from hair loss, and it’s imporant to learn more because there are some options open to you. Just as many women lose their hair as men do. You can find out what you can do about it from your family doctor. There’s no reason why you have to take it at all.
